Now what to do with all these programs Now that you all have fixed my virus problems I DL Avast. I also have Comodo as a firewall and as far as spyware I'm running Spybot, Superantispyware and AVG spyware. Is this all necessary? I'd like to get the protection programs to run once a day but I can't figure out how to make that happen or its set up and I just can't find out where the setting is at.
Help this old man to figure out this new fangled computer stuff.
I didn't know that Avast was a temporary program that is going to run out in 60 days. Maybe I should try something else? I had AVG and I ended up with lots of viruses so I changed to this. If you can help I'd need step by step directions, Sorry! Any help would be appreciated! I use Avast and find it to be the best free AV around | | Member with 41 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Colorado Springs, CO Experience: Computer Illiterate | | Well, I guess I didn't get the free one. Would you have a link for the free one? I'd be willing to erase the old one and DL a free one.
Oh, I guess the word is delete not erase. Sorry about that! | | Distinguished Member with 95,642 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: UK Experience: I'm learning all the time | | Quote:

Sorry about that! | here's the link for you http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html | | Member with 41 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Colorado Springs, CO Experience: Computer Illiterate | | Thank you! On that page I seen where you can get the registration number so I gave it a try and it worked. Thank you so much!!!
Now I noticed that the AVG spyware 7.5 is the same way and will run out in 26 more days. Is this program the same way? Can I get a registration number for it the same way as I got one for Avast?
And, anyone have any info for me as far as my programs go?

Jerry... | it's good to have a couple of spyware progs running as they find different things, You don't say if you use the free version of Superantispyware but check here if you do, it shows the differences and doesn't have real time scanning as you will see, I use it and do a manual scan often, for Spybot check this, start the programme go to Mode > advanced mode, shows options and settings, in left column click settings, in main column, scroll down to Automation, it should have option to run check on Programme start, are you happy with Comodo? I use Zone Alarm as I find it easier to configure and much more simple to use, it's just my preference though

I think I'll go for the pro version for the extra money! I do like the idea of it running on its own and me not having to think about running scans and your right about it doing much more when you buy it. So if you like it then I think we will go for it. But, for another 10 bucks I can get the lifetime offer? That sound a little too go to be true! What do you think about that?
While I'm waiting for your answer I'll check into the spybot thing. Thanks so much for all these answers to my questions. I'm really lost when it come to this computer stuff but I got to be safe and protected now days. And the idea of having to have three different things to keep me safe is just not right! Jerry...
I found what you were talking about with Spybot and I got it set. I also founf where I can set a time of day for it to run a scan so now I know it will run without me having to think about it. My computer is on line at all times so this will help. You sure are a lot of help!

Jerry... | it's really your preference, I haven't ever paid for any programmes as their free versions do a good job and just clicking on scan costs nothing it doesn't have to be done daily, I usually scan weekly so it's not a chore.
Just to make you think further, I use Advanced Windows care which does a great job of keeping my pc up to scratch, check it out here again it's down to preference but I prefer it as it scans faster than Avg and also looks for other problems, not just spyware.

What a deal! I bought it and it spit out the code I needed so I put it in and now I'm set up on the SAS for life (I hope).
I was wanting to get rid of the AVG AS because it is also for a limited time till it quits so I'll give this Advanced Windows care a try. Anything I should know about the set up of this program? Can it be set to run updates and scans on its own? | | Distinguished Member with 95,642 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: UK Experience: I'm learning all the time |

you have to scan manually which is simple as the link shows you, it checks your pc for errors and optimizes it too so it's well worth trying it out just to see what it finds, it scans fast, you can review each section where it finds problems by clicking on the findings, it will then say repair or fix and that's it, it does far more than a spyware scan, I find it an invaluable tool so it's well worth a look at.
