Smile Best Free Firewal ???
Hello,

This is my first post I recently bought a New Computer making this one my 4th, but keep in mind my first was Commodore 128 I still can't believe they even upgraded those from the 64.

But any way my new system has Windows Xp Pro on it. I was wondering what free Firewalls
where better than it.

I am currently using PC Tools Firewall Plus.

Any help would be great.

Thanks...

Jetico and Outpost are highly regarded. See here: http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tests.php

I always heard the pc tools firewall was a good one you can keep that one if you like it.

by the way that link is a little outdated. "last update : March 11 2006"

they last updated on november 09 2007.

Personal favorite
I'm a big fan of Sunbelt personal firewall and I actually wrote a review on it if you want to check it out for some more info before you download it. The review is here. Check it out and see what you think.

Thanks for the updated link. So, Jetico and Outpost are still in the top 4.

Try visiting the website: http://www.firewallleaktester.com/

The real answer to your question depends upon who is using it and how much expertise they have at configuring it if needed vs the easier free ones to use like ZoneAlarm Free.

Also check out comodo, a good strong free firewall which does very well in leak tests, athough I do use Jetico myself!

Comodo firewall. Sign up it's free!

The only thing I didn't like about Comodo was the learning curve and having to answer more questions than any other firewall. Now, Comodo does provide great protection but when I did an actual firewall leak test, it asked me about 8 questions, from the time I launched the infected file to the time it eventually reported it as blocked.

comodo is harder to use because it's not just a firewall it also as a hips,

but the newer updates to the comodo firewall come with a firewall with anti-leak setting thats supposed to cause less pop ups.

I use CPF 3 (w/D+ enabled) myself, but to be completely honest - while I'm in love with the security it provides, it took me a month to adequately operate/understand all of its functions comfortably...and I'm really smrat.

Do you still have an old computer around?
It can be set up to be a router.
Hardware is better than software.
