Spy Sweeper vs Spybot
I use both Spy Sweeper and Spybot, and I was wondering if anyone knows why the latest version of spybot does not catch all the spyware? When I run Spy Sweeper after spybot, it always finds spyware that I have to delete.

Spybot catches about 55% of malware.

SpySweeper catches about 91% of malware.

one scanner doesn't catch everything which is why it's good to use more than one what spybot misses spysweeper catches and vice versa,

though as rainforest123 mentioned spysweeper does catch more than spybot.

Sounds more like an advertorial for Nortons. Oh look, who is a big advertising client with PC magazine? Yep, NORTONS ...and SpySweeper!

For fair reviews of any security, go to an independent site. Spyware Warrior would be my choice. Top of the pops certainly isn't Nortons. In fact it's considered one of the worst security systems available.

Spy Sweeper with its runtime monitoring functionality I found to be much more amenable to running vs Spybot and its approach when I was running WinXP Pro SP2.

Correct me if I am wrong about this but is Spybot Search and Destroy the tool that has teatimer for runtime monitoring? If so, I found it overly much of a blight on processor time.

I'd go with Webroot's Spy Sweeper for both the AS capability and the runtime functionality - its easy to use and gets the job done. But, I would also go with the free version of Spybot S&D - I used both of them + SpywareBlaster + the MVP Hosts file on WinXP Pro Sp2.

Now, I run Linux with an iptables firewall with all of the 1-65535 ports stealthed. Further, I run in a Live CD environment without any of my 4 disks mounted, and in that way keep them from being exposed to the Internet. Power down and any potential malware is destroyed. The real benefit is that I no longer pay for AV, AS or any other tools that are Windows 3rd party market related in order to stay clean from malware - MS just does not cut it for me.

I've never had a problem with spy-bot, nor with it's ability to detect spyware etc. Used as a detector it picks up more than it's fair share of scumware. However, no antispyware program gets it all and along with SpyWare Blaster, SuperAntispyware [free], a good AV program like Comodo [free,my choice] or Avast. and a good process guard like WinPatrol [free]. Any computer is pretty safe if it doesn't spend a lots of time at porn sites. I'd be looking at a Kaspersky Suite if I wanted to live that dangerously, certainly not the resources hog Norton's, which PC mag. gives 10 out of 10 Lol. Lol !!!

The thing with Spybot is not to use Tea-timer. The new version just out is very good but I still don't use Tea-timer [it might have improved].

That's a lot of good information both pro and con on both spy ware programs. Thanks for all your input.
I've noticed that Tea-timer has caused my system to boot a little slower, they do need to improve it somewhat. I think I'll take it out of my start-ups from no on. I've notice every time I load a new program, it pops up asking if I want to change something. You would think it would know if the new program was a spy ware or not. That's the only time it should pop up.

My best advise about Tea timer is to turn it off and install Win Patrol [free version] instead. Works like a charm.

I thought the same until I ran across the corporate edition website. Apparently, the Spybot S&D we all know can't be run in a corporate environment. I was wondering if this version of Spybot was any different than the freeware version.

Peace...

as noted earlier, there are numerous amounts of malware/spyware protection. each software does something the other does not. do not just run one, run multiple espically if you in the field of removing threats

good info on the spysweeper > spybot though.
