I meant 20 tracking cookies with 53 traces. they are almost all in the "application data" folder in Documents and Settings. However the file is hidden and I can't figure out how to unhide it.

tracking cookies are ususally in the temp internet folder and are suspect if in app data.

start/control panel/internet options/delete cookies.

hidden files:
start/control pasne/folder options/view...select show hidden files.

anti spyware isn't anti-virus protection.

how do you find the properties folder for Windows Explorer? When I do it on the desktop, it's just the setings for the desktop including screensavers. When I click the properties on the taskbar, it just the properties of thetaskbar and start button

I did all the steps to show the hidden files and there is still no "Applications Data" folder in the location that the scans said they would be which is in "Documents and Settings". How am I supposed to delete these files if I can't find them

What version of Windows do you have and which web browser are you using?

Another option is to get CCleaner, which will delete cookies and temp internet files for almost all browsers with one click. Just don't use the registry cleaner section.

Windows XP with Service pack 2 and the latest Firefox. I have been using CCleaner and I don't know if it's helped. I ran 3 Adaware scans and the same tracking cookies appeared in all the scans, It found more traces every time I did a scan. I also ran SpyBot a couple of times, it discovered something and in the next scan, the same things appeared. I ran a Kaspersky Online Scanner, it found one virus, even though it wouldn't tell me which one. It found other infected files which said it was locked and many of them I could tell were fake. some were of AVG both free Antivirus and Antispy. Others, were connected to Adaware or Threatfire

I always run Ccleaner before I do any kind of a anti-spyware or anti-virus scan to get rid of tracking cookies because they almost always show up if you don't. If you're using Ccleaner then it should get rid of most of those.

But if Kaspersky found a virus then that could be a little more serious. Why don't you post a HJT log to make sure you're system is clean.

Go to this site http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...?page=download.

Click on 'Download HijackThis Installer'.

*Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop, or to the location where you normally download.
*Double-click on HJTInstall.exe.
*Click on Install.
*By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
*Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
*Click on the 'Do a system scan and save a logfile button'. It will scan and the log will open in notepad.
*Click Save to save the log file.
*Click on 'Edit > Select All' then click on 'Edit > Copy' (or Ctrl-C) to copy the entire contents of the log.
*Come back to this thread and Paste (or Ctrl-V) the log in your next reply.

*DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Well, I'm not an expert, but from what I can see your log is clean.

If a malware expert finds something you'll be given further instructions.

I don't see anything malicious in the log.

Please post your AVG Anti-Spyware and Kaspersky scan logs.

no, I finished that scan deleting the cookies that I found. I'm running a new scan now that looks like the same cookies were not deleted from the computer. So far the new scan has found 15 cookies. I'll post the report when it finishes
