free email scanners work well AVIRA?
Hi,

I use the free edtion of AVIRA antivirus, which of course has no email security tools. I use it because of low resource usage and its high detection rates.

I am looking for a tool that not only is a spam filter but will also check for other malware ( ie scan everything incoming and will scan attachments before they open).

Any ideas??

Comodo anti-virus has an em scanner [free]. No fuss and very good indeed. Avoid their Firewall though, The new 3 version is [still] a bit buggy.

Is it a standalone scanner? or is it part of an anti-virus package? See the thing is I have limited system resources and AVIRA is working really well as an antivirus. I just need a program to scan emails when I open up outlook.

It's stand alone. It has auto in-out mail scan and Hips [process guard] features too and a very easy on-off feature interface. I've turned the Hips off as I already have Win Patrol [a separate process guard] installed.

thanks,

I went to the website and Comodo is a complete antivirus program. So that would mean running two different antivirus pgms at the same time. I know that this is a big no-no because of all the potential conflicts. Even if I turnoff all the other features except for email scanning, I still don't think this is a good idea. I just need a pgm only designed to scan incoming emails.

go to www.komando.com. She has 3 spam filters (freebies) listed in the security section of the download tab. I have used suggestions made by her for several years with good luck on each...
She also hosts a 3 hr. weekly call in radio program each weekend. Have learned a lot from her shows and newsletters.
