Decryption problems in XP
Hi,
In the last week I have found out that part of my D-drive has
files where the attribute is set to encrypt, and I am
not able to take it off again by following the normal decryption logic of
clearing the check box and then OK and OK...
I tried restoring to an earlier date, it did not work

My D-drive consists of two folders: My Documents and Downloads
I figured out that I would want to back up My Documents regularly,
while I would need another folder for bigger files which I did not needed
to backup so often.
One of the things I like to keep is the installer file of a new program
I have downloaded, so that I can easily install the program again
either when it is corrupted, or when I move to another computer...

Now 95% of the files in Downloads are in green text,
I cannot access them, I cannot copy them to drive C or
send them as an attachment to the net, but I can move them to
My Documents, although they stay encrypted .

If I create another file inside the Download folder or copy a file from C to D
this new file is not automatically encrypted.

Can anybody please help, before I reformat my D-drive and
loose all the files I need?

thanks
micha

The files are encrypted. The only way to unencrypt them is to log in with the exact account on the exact Windows installation that was used to encrypt the files. Unfortunately, there's no way around this.

I am not sure about that, but I went to my personal certificates in the certificate manager
and found that my original user certificate expired the 9th of FEB this year?
I tried to renew with same key and it didn't find the directory?
