Couple general security software questions.
1. I'm trying to decide which Internet security suit to get. My choice is kaspersky but some IT guy work with my dad recommended zone alarm. Which is better? (I'm looking for anti-virus, firewall, spy-ware.) I'm willing to pay reasonable price for good product.

2. Can I have multiple anti-spy-ware in my PC? If so, which are the one that I should get?

3. Can I have multiple firewall in my PC? I'm not really familiar with firewall, how exactly should I use firewall effectively?

thank you !

Look here.
http://www.matousec.com/projects/win...ts-results.php

You can have multiple anti-spy-ware but if they have real time scanners you don't want more then one running at a time.
Like it is ok to have ones that don't do anything till you start them on your own and run a scan.

You only want one firewall to run.

On the Firewall ratings note that the Free version on some is not as good as the paid version.

The kaspersky anti-virus and zone alarm anti-virus use the same virus detection engine so they should both detect the same things,

see my post from another thread,

Question Security software for Mac OS X
Which, if any of the spyware, malware, etc. apps work on OS X, specifically, OS 10.4+. All of these seem to be for MS, for obvious reasons.

Thanks,

Elihu

Hi Gizzy,

Use of the same virus detection engine does not imply that the same signature database is used, therefore, in order to detect the same viruses they need to also use the same signature database.

By contrast, rule based heuristic AVs like NOD32 do not use signature databases.

I think that's an advertisement, zonealarm.
I think your choice of security suites should first depend upon which one your system will get along with. My system did not get along with Zonealarm which is why I don't use it.

Hey Smeegle-

That's fine- many people like Zone Alarm products and some people have had problems with them- not all software plays nice together. If someone here decided Zone Alarm was right for them, I wanted them to know about the discount.

Thanks!

Hi lotuseclat79,

Thanks for the correction,

I think I heard once that same engine detected the same thing so I thought it was true.

You could also install an additional security layer such as Sandboxie or Returnil, both of which run a 'virtual' system:
