wifi hotspot safety - general recommendations?
Greetings.

I currently use Norton Internet Security, but am trying to ramp up my laptop security.

What are the essential do's/don'ts for wifi hotspot safety? What software programs are best? What software settings should be selected? Etc.

Thanks!

You can start by viewing the second and third sticky at the top of this forum. There is a lot of invaluable information there.

One thing to watch out for is what is called an evil-twin. Essentially its someone setting up an ssid that looks like the hotspot's ssid. But if you connect to it then all your traffic is intercepted and viewable by the hacker.

If your firewall has a public setting, then remember to use that when connecting to a hotspot. Because usually a private network setting allows things like File and Printer Sharing. And you don't want to share your files when you're connecting to a hotspot.

Also use VPN if your company gave you one.
