Someone formatted my hd
I have an usb hardisk connected to my computer and
today someone took control and fast started a format program
and formatted that hardisk.

I have win xp firewall and antivirus programs and antispyware too
but that didnt help.

What can i do to protect better?

I have no idea how these thing works - what are these folks using
to be able to get in a comp and do such things?

Go into control panel, open network connections... right click on the connection.... disable file sharing.

Nothing agains XP's firewall, I would just recommend something like Sygate Personal Firewall or Comodo. Both free online.

Another couple of free firewalls are www.zonelab.com (Zone Alarm) and Avast firewall
I use ZA on one computer and Avast on another with good luck.

Someone "took control" of your computer from another computer on your same network? Over the Internet? Or did someone else sit down at your computer and mess with it?

Explaining exactly what happened would go a long way in helping to resolve the issue.

I have installed Comodo.

I think i know how they got into the comp.
It was probably through Mirc (the irc klient).

Mirc seems to be easy to use for these things.
I still run mirc but in Sandboxie so i should be more safe.

Mirc ver 6 and below has a buffer overflow problem. If you aren't using the latest version then its time to upgrade.
