The previous version was 2.7 and it is true that some people had problems after upgrading to V 3. In at least some of the cases I read about, the problems seemed to be linked to Outlook Express, but there were probably other factors as well.

At about the same time as NOD was upgraded, the Comodo firewall was also upgraded and there were lots of complaints about that as well! I upgraded both programs and never had any difficulties at all, so the question is, what percentage of users actually did have problems compared to those that didn't?

Given the nature of computers and computing, hardly any major upgrade can take place without causing problems for somebody, and only discontented users usually bother to post complaints in forums like this.

I don't have any idea about any difference in resource usage between the two versions. I assume that, if you have Defense+ activated (the HIP's type component?), it must take more resources than the plain AV component alone, but I don't have any figures.

Perhaps some of the version 3 bugs have been worked out. It's true what you say about people on these forums is that you hear about problems but not many people say that it's working fine. But then again these days it seems that a lot of companies is putting out software that has a lot of bugs on a new release.I'm going to give this v3 a run when my avira runs out. Thanks for the response on this.

I don't think you could go far wrong by using the 30 day trial of NOD and see how you get on.

By the way, did anybody notice my deliberate mistake in mentioning Defense+ (a Comodo firewall component) while referring to resource usage differences between NOD 2.7 and 3.0? (Phew! - looks like I got away with it).

My fault for starting this off. While I was busy boasting about how little trouble I had had with upgrading both NOD and Comodo (in the same week), I stupidly mentioned Defense+ when talking about the resource usage of the two NOD versions!

One thing about Defense+ is that it can, depending on how it's set up, treat all new files as suspicious. If you download and install any new programs, disable Defense+ or it may seek permission for every single component to be installed. Obviously, you need to re-enable it once the install is done.
