Cool Best Way to Protect PC from Netsky 32 worm
Have just seen what netsky or skynet 32 worm/virus/trojan/whatever or worse
can do to an OS. Horrifying. No wonder I used and still use 98/ME up until
3 days ago. My question is how to best defend against this malware from hell.
AVG will go on tomorrow, then Adaware updated, then Spybot, the latest version,
then Asquared2, then SuperAntiSpyware, then Hijack This and I believe I saw
something about XP having its own firewall.

What else would help prevent another attact/episode?? If this happens again,
I may take the 85.00 XP home version CD I bought on ebay and throw it
like a frisbee as far as I can, even at the risk of permanent arm damage.

I'll go ahead and let windows update itself ( SP2), but I've read others who
got hit who had SP2 going strong.

Any ideas??

Hi,

Be very careful opening email attachments- use an antivirus scanner that scans email well.

Install Microsoft Updates regularly, get Service Pack 2 for XP installed, and keep your security programs updated, such as antivirus and antispwyare.

Quote:
Netsky, which first appeared in February, comes as an attachment to an e-mail message and installs itself on Windows PCs when the attachment is opened. It also tries to exploit a long-patched Microsoft hole that enables file attachments launch automatically when an e-mail message is read. The virus combs the machine's hard drive, harvesting e-mail addresses from a variety of file types, then spreads itself further. The Bagle worm and its variants, whose creators apparently carried on a war of words with the Netsky authors in hidden text inside virus code, were edged off the list because Netsky spread itself more effectively
