General 'Clean-up' Of XP PC Required - Slow Loading/Boot
Please help asap.
Slow loading of XP start-up and programs... get blue screen every now and again.
Lots of applications loaded on startup...

Cheers,
Sam

Agree with Cat4Lunch, after running MSCONFIG, try also running the chkdsk/p in DOS mode using your windows xp installer - Repair. Hope it'll solve your problem.

I did what CAT4LUNCH said and it helped, my boot up is faster now. But it comes up with a warning to say that i'm not booting up completely. And it then takes me back to the MSCONFIG page - a little annoying...

CAT4LUNCH

The way you posted back, to have the user keep that short list of items, may have prompted them to turn off some things that are required....

I am going to have someone very experienced with helping on these forums stop by to assist with the startups....

(We fully realize you want to help out- but, have to inform you of this

This site has put in place some rules about malware cleaning advice, and about who may post it.

Uncheck the startup entries that I have highlighted in bold text:

ehtray
ZCfgSvc
ifrmewrk
SynTPEnh (If you're using an external mouse, you can uncheck this one)
ISUSPM
issch

PCMService
KHALMNPR
(blank)

cli
NeroCheck
Quickset

ccApp
stsystra
GrooveMonitor
QTTask
iTunesHelper

ctfmon
msmsgs
btdna
Adobe Gamma Loader
Digital Line Detect
NkbMonitor.exe
Omega Research Task Scheduler
VPN Client

If you want to research any of these startup entries yourself, this site will assist you.

It's possible that some of these startup entries may actually be a virus/trojan, depending on where they're located and running from.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You might want to read this article about the "ZCfgSvc" startup entry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you post a HijackThis log here? It'll give a clearer and more detailed look at the startup entries and what's going on with your computer. I'm also unable to research some of the startup entries the way you have them listed(unable to see the complete command lines).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the processor type and speed?

How much RAM is installed?

What is the hard drive size, and how much free space is there?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
