Corrupt C Drive! Is it a virus?
I need help with my other computer.

Yesterday, I was surfing the web and I clicked on my web browser(mozilla firefox) and instantly a blue screen came up saying something about an error and it was protecting my files. Down the bottom it said "Dumping physical memory to disc" and numbers increasing next to it.

I restarted the computer and now it says the C drive is corrupt and unreadable. I tried clicking on the internet and the same blue screen came up with the same message. I restarted it again and ran disk check but it didn't help.

Could this be a virus or is it a legitimate error? My son downloaded a game two days ago.

I have WINDOWS XP and Zone Alarm internet security.

Any file name mentioned in the message?

Can you boot from the XP CD and run chkdsk /r?

So you have run chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console? What were the results? Any bad sectors?

If you can't fix it using windows chkdsk command, try using other 3rd party apps.. I suspect you have a bad drive already.

Definitely no bad sectors. I can't remember the other results.

So what happens now when you try to boot? How far does it get and what messages do you get?

Can you tap F8 on boot to get a boot menu to try Safe Mode or "Last Good"?

UPDATE: Computer is working fine now. I ran chkdsk at startup again and although it still showed no bad sectors the computer seems to working fine.

Only problem is, that blue screen is showing up randomly whenever i click on the internet and starts "dumping files" whatever that means. I restart it whenever that shows up caus i think its a virus.

EVERYTHING is working fine except for that little thing. I ran spybot s&d and zonealarm scans and hijack this. Nothing whatsoever showed up!

It's mentioned in the first post: it says an error has occurred and it is protecting my files. Down the bottom it says "dumping files" and a number increasing, which is the number of files, i assume.
