Solved: IDX files
I found over 1200 idx files in my documents folder this evening. What are they and what should I do with this. I moved them to a folder on my desktop. One sample: CAOO.IDX
Do I need to be concerned. I'm using outlook express.

Thanks,
Marianne

They are index files that can be created by several programs. Can you give me the entire path to their original location?

Have you installed any new software (programs, games, etc.) lately?

Open HijackThis and click on "Config" and then on the "Misc Tools" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list here please.

Could it be CA00.IDX instead? (the 0s are numbers rather than letters).

If so, it seems they are related to Nero burning software.

They were in C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\My Documents\CA00.IDX and those are 0's and not O's. I came across a post after submitting and read that these
were related to Nero which I have. Version 7. Can I delete them, I was burning CD's and DVD's but have finished for now.

Thanks,
Marianne

They are created as a database when you opt to save your settings after each burn so new ones will be created if you choose that option again. You can delete them if you don't want the settings retained.
