Hi, Mine is set to scan the memory on boot-up but otherwise I open the program once a month or so & hit the "play" button to check the whole hard drive. I'm not sure if you can set up an auto schedule or not.Perhaps if you right clik the "C drive" it may give you some options to do that. However with that said, my database updates practically on a daily basis & I'm using version 4.8 now. If you "hover" over the "ball" in the notification area you can see the active providers, & you can watch it work when you access a web site, so it's doing it's thing OK. "on-access" should be active, if not right clik the ball & activate it.

I never shut my computer off. So having it run on start up does me no good.

Hi, Yeh, I'm not sure exactly what Biv's question is, but I'm interpreting it as kinda like Norton where you can set up a schedule to scan the system (OS,files, etc) automatically on a routine basis (once a month for example) whereas with Avast you apparently have to do that manually by opening the program, selecting the hard drive, files etc & hit the "play" button. There might be a way to set that up routinely but I'm not aware of it. If someone has the knowledge, please post it.
Also another comment, I said in a previous post that my memory scan runs on Boot-up, that's not true, it runs on opening the program. I misspoke, just don't call me Hillary!

Biv, I just noticed your recent post. Do you have the little "ball with the A in it" in your notification area?

Benny Bumble: I sure do. I looked and can't find anything about auto scanning. INFO: I used to run AVG and a lot of people said AVAST was better. AVG auto scanned my Computer at 3am every morning. I didn't have to worry about it and that is what I was trying to do with AVAST. It is a very nice feeling to know that their are a bunch of people who don't know you that are as gracious and helpful as you all have been. Love this site.

Hi Biv.

theres actually 2 ways to get it to scan automatically,

1.
to set up a scheduled scan read this http://forum.avast.com/index.php?boa...;threadid=3796

2.
avast comes with a setting to scan your computer when your screensaver turns on.

hope that helps.

EDIT: @Benny Bumble, you beat me by 1 minute
