Solved: Make Avast go away!
I had Avast installed some time ago. I didn't like it and read reviews that suggested it wasn't the best defence so I uninstalled it. Easy. No. If I use Outlook or attempt to use a "Contact Us" link on a website up pops this message, "Error Avast: Unable to connect to the Avast Engine. Avast Mail protection cannot be started". If I go to programs>alwil software and try and delete the file it won't let me. It's not showing in Add/|Remove programs. I just want it to go away! Suggestions?

I think I may have just solved my own problem! I used the "Avast Uninstall" utility on the Avast website. Duh! Bye!

Gourdo, go to Start>Search for files and folders. Enter the word "Avast" and there will still be some of it left. I deleted everything in the files and used the Uninstall utility.
