Exclamation Solved: Trend Internet Security
My computer has Windows Vista. My subscriptions to Spy Sweeper and Trend Anti Virus were due to expire (Spy Sweeper first) so I renewed the Spy Sweeper (no anti-virus) first. About a week later, when I tried to renew Trend, I was given two choices - their Anti Virus + Spyware or something new called Internet Security which I understood to be a replacement of the original anti virus program (no spyware). I purchased and downloaded that and after what seemed like a dozen downloads and a dozen restarts, and pasting the serial number from the confirmation email into the appropriate box, my Trend icon indicated that Trend needed my "help to solve a problem", that being that the subscription needed to be activated. When I clicked "Fix it", I was rewarded with the following error message:
"Your Trend Micro AntiVirus serial number cannot support Trend Micro Internet Security. Please install Trend Micro AntiVirus instead. (Error Code:0x90000055)".

So did I buy the wrong thing or is it just incompatible with Vista, like most things are?

I'm pretty sure this means that since I uninstalled AntiVirus as instructed, I am now unprotected against viruses. Assuming that I am, I would like to uninstall Trend and purchase the anti-virus addition that Spysweeper offers. Would this be the wise thing? Most of all, I just want the easiet, least destructive path out of this mess, and the sooner the better so I don't run into a problem with Trend when I try to get a refund from them, and so my unsophisticated computer brain does not explode.

Any help would be so much appreciated. Thank you.

Did you uninstall the old AV before installing the new one?

you could always contact Trend Micro yourself because you have payed for it...right? (sorry its late )
i had a few problems with Trend myself.... i chose to uninstall it myself, and got all the good free ones out there Trend i find annoying as anything it just seems to bring your system to a crawl with its consistent scans, updates and whatever else it does
