Question AVG is doing something strange?? And it's slowing my computer down horribly! HUH??
What is going on here? I noticed yesterday that I had the yellow icon with the exclamation mark in it and when I put my mouse on it, it was a download and said 0%. Ok, my computer was downloading something.

But by 6 pm last night, it was only up to 1%. By midnight 3%. And this morning...only 27%. This is mightily slowing down my computer, besides taking FOREVER!!! And to move up to only 27% overnight tells me this is going to go on ALL day and into tomorrow. So that means my computer's performance is going to continue to suck.

I then notice that the AVG icon is now duplicated, and the duplicate has a yellow arrow....and when I put my mouse on that, it says Complete Test. HUH????

Does anybody know what is going on??? Whatever this is is NOT normal.

Question More on my AVG weirdness
Weird. I neglected to right-click on the AVG duplicate icon and just did---it says AVG is running and has been for 7 hrs and 7 minutes....yet this has been going on since yesterday at 6 pm....and probably earlier than that!!

Additionally, my AVG has been set for years to come on in the middle of the night and be completely by the time I get up.

What is going on?? It's 9:15 am, it says it's been running for just over 7 hours.....and this was going on yesterday!!

I have AVG Free and it's working OK. My updates were loaded this morn and scanning
completed with no errors.
The AVG icon with the arrow is while it is scanning.
If yours is acting up, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.
Set it up to your schedule and see if it gets better.
If not, start looking for some other app causing grief to AVG.
Good luck.

Thanks. You know. I think something else that is strange caused my AVG to be running so slow--the download that is going on. I still have that yellow icon on the lower right, shaped like a shield with an exclamation mark in it....and when I move my mouse to it, it says Downloading Updates 31%. So THAT is now my mystery, because that updating has been going on since yesterday afternoon.....and it only moved up to 31% after 15 hours, if not more hours. WHAT would be being downloaded and taking THAT long???

I believe that yellow shield icon with the exclamation mark (!) is windows automatic updates.

Yes, it is. But what's weird is why a windows update has been going on for at LEAST 17 hours now...and is now only up to 35% as I write this.

Gizzy, I have satellite. I've had it for about 4 years, and no update has taken THIS long and caused such a problem. I just wish I was able to see what was being uploaded. It's now right after 12 noon, and I'm now only up to 38%.

Yes, the shield is Windows Updates. You should be able to double click shield and open
the update installation to see the progress.
You should have the option to cancel the updates also.
I would cancel and manually go the M$ Update site and see what you're missing and just
start the process again.
Something is hanging the updates. Some people close AVG during updates from M$. I don't.
Reboot your system to get a good start on this process again.
Good luck.
