Norton 360 backup from external drive
I'm new to this, and already posted this under "Other Software" but this looks like a better place for it.

I have spent at least 12 hours with six different tech folks at Norton and the bottom line is that the last guy told me that it is no longer possible with version 2 to back up files that exist on an external drive (laptop is NOT on a network). In version 1, I could "Add a Folder" from an external drive and it would back up fine. I have been told that this feature no longer exists, but I just can't believe it. What I suspect is happening is that Norton360 has somehow latched on to the notion that I am part of a network since I am using a wireless router (Norton "Help" does state that network drives cannot be backed up). SO, my questions are: Is it, indeed true that Norton360 has removed the ability to backup files from an external drive? AND, if this ability still exists: How do I make this happen?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi epm001,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your posting. The information you received from the last representative that you spoke with is correct.

While you can still add files and folders from local, attached drives to your backup set, you are not able to add files or folders from a removable drive in Norton 360 version 2.0 to the backup set. You can still choose an external drive as your backup location if you prefer.

Thank you,
Mike

Thank you for verifying this for me. I will say, however, that I am without words.... . Why would Norton take away the ability to backup external drives with Version 2, especially since it worked with Version 1??? I am especially surprised since each of the prior support folks with whom I worked knew I was currently backing up external drives at the time they "upgraded" me to Version 2.

At any rate, since I store all my photos, music, etc., on external drives and need to be able keep them backed up, Norton is now a nearly useless product for me to use. Can anyone suggest a better way to go? I let a trial version of FreeAgent Tools that came with my Seagate drive expire. Would that be a good way to go???

I would hope for an all-in-one approach (anti-virus, firewall, backup, etc.), but if I need to use several products, so be it.
