antivirus what and how
hello i am running vista prem norton free trial ended so put in mt macfee 07 internet security witch crashed mt system so did a safe start and removed all the macfee down loaded avg just before it ran it tells me that i have another antivirus programme and to remove it before installing i checked all my programmes and no sign of any antivirus prog norton and macfee are removed system has been restarted and still it says the same what is it picking up and calling it antivirus prog ???? help needed is it the windows defender prog that is part of vista no idea

AV's are intended to be permanaent so they uninstall very poorly. Look for remnants of the uninstalled programs. Remove any remaining folders in Program Files. Run Autoruns to see if the uninstalled apps are still loading drivers or anything else and remove them.

Look through the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and delete any references to the uninstalled programs.
