Windows Defender Opinions
I have done a "search" in Tech Support Guy, but haven't found anything that pertains to my curiosity so I would like to ask some of you experts here,(and not so experts )what are your opinions about Windows Defender.

to give a "not so expert" oppinion. I've been using it from day one as my real time spyware monitor and have no complaints. but I find spyware is best dealt with using a multi layered approach. I also do weekly scans with spybot, adaware and supersntispyware (along with an AV and firewall)

I think most don't think very highly of Windows Defender and often supplement it with Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and some other anti-spyware app.

Peace...

It's not a case of not thinking very highly of it. More a case of none of them catch everything so you use them together to take advantage of their strengths and nullify their weaknesses (just only use one real time scanner at a time)

Oh, I beg to differ. Personally, I've got no issue with Windows Defender. However, I've frequently read suggestions and recommendations to not use it, that it's a "waste", that it "missed stuff," and so on.

I'll dig up some threads and will post links for you.

EDIT: Here are some links I found on Tech Guy and a review I found online. I tried to stay away from threads where people were seeking help with defender problems and discussion on the beta version. Some of "help" threads I posted links to have some opinion oriented comments about Windows Defender outside the scope of seeking help with getting Windows Defender working.

I personally,do have issues with Windows"Offender"...I checked all the links you provided Tomdkat,(Thanx!) and I have experienced most all the same problems that were in these threads...and then some! And just try and get Offender out of your computer,,,well with Vista you can't whatsoever. Trying to kick it out of XP permanantly, with no trace is no easy task also.
I liked what the 2-spyware review had to say about it Tom...that was good tracking buddy. DarqueMist, I agree with you on the "multi-layering" and that was a very good suggestion. And if you are happy with pretender,I mean offender,,,no no no...Defender! : ) Then more power to you. I didn't start the thread to disagree with anyones opinions,or trust with what they are comfortable with. It works for you and thats a good thing. It didn't work so well for me, and I just wanted to see how many people had,or have problems with it,and compare it to what I experienced.
Truthfully I found myself contemplating re-installing it over again,,,( What The H**L Was I Thinking!) but I went a whole nuther route...AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 was more...logical. Thanks to both of you for your honest opinion, and input. Your good peoples! Peace 2
