Now firstly i consider my computer to be reasonably safe...for people who know what they are doing... however the kids have recently discovered the internet NOTE: i am the generally concerned brother NOT my job to consistently supervise! i have had to clear up MANY infections caused by the kids downloading random junk of the net, even though i have mcafee site adviser and a firewall, and lots of realtime protection... oh and spywareblaster but kids seem to ignore the little RED crosses next to the websites and choose to ignore Avast saying the file is infected! im really sick of cleaning up this...JUNK! unfortuanly i NEED this computer for study and whatever else

HOW can i make this computer safe?!

Are you using a hosts file? There are a few out there that you can copy or download that will block lots of the older sites. Won't catch new ones though.

Mcafee protects just fine, firewall is for haxx0rs and spyware , get kaspersky or norton 360 if your that scared and stop bitching... they would prevent viruses/spyware from being run on pc...

Don't you know that kids that aren't able to download anything now will grow up ?
It is better that kid learns about certain things while being small than having him to cach all that up when he is grow up... cause later he'll have the energy to learn something else and not being laughed at by every euro kid as american idiot?

you could try a program like link -->Returnil
anything they do to the computer will be fixed after a reboot,

you could either always leave the program off and then just use "session lock" when the kids want to use the computer or you can always leave returnil turned on and just turn it off when you want to update programs or install new programs,

or you could give them a limited account so they can't install anything and just password protect the admin account.

the kids are various ages mostly around 10 so they can sorta understand the junk over the internet, and thank you blues_harp will check those out, also i wouldn't mind a program like deep freeze or returnil but i think it would drive a few people insane but certainly an option, will check it out
