Well, finally time to delete Norton?
Hey people, Norton is REALLY slowing down my computer. There is SIX (Yes, SIX.) OH WAIT, SEVEN. Svchost.exe processes running at the SAME time. A total of 48,628 K of my memory usage!!! Just from those 6 svchost.exe processes. 59,012 K TOTAL. Now, with FireFox running, I have 316M/1226M Commit Charge! The svchost.exe processes sometimes some get to like 50 CPU. This is totally ridicules. (If I spelled that right.) Only having 512MB of ram, I quite frankly don't like it at all. Well, a MAX of 2gb ram which I am thinking of getting. Only $40 because this computer is crap. No PCI-Ex 16 slots. NONE. Just x1. Oh well , I think I'm giving up on Norton.

AND YES I SAID DELETE NORTON.

if you want to remove norton make sure you use the norton removal tool http://service1.symantec.com/Support...9?OpenDocument

and then which anti-virus will you be using instead of norton?

for free there's
Avast!
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Avira
http://www.free-av.com/
AVG
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download...virus/us/frt/0

I'd suggest avast out of the three but it's all personal preference,

also the svchost.exe processes aren't norton's processes they're related to windows and after you uninstall norton they'll still be there (I have 3 running right now sometimes there's more or less running).

I hate norton its jst pointless... why pay when you can get something better for free.

ive used both AVG and avira

i would recommend avira. less cpu and better at finding hidden nasties.

Ok guys, removed Norton and installed Avast! Now, it found a virus/worm (Name: Wind32:Trojan-gen {other}) and theres 4 available actions... Move/rename, delete, repair, and move to chest. I was thinking repair because thats what I did with Norton, but, I'm new to avast....(Obviously)

Avast is really great to be a free software. I also had norton and unistalled it, a while back. I now use Nod32 and it is really great.

Hi, The best idea especially as you have just changed antivirus programs....is to move the suspect file to the Chest (Quarantine area). It's locked in there and cannot do harm, unless someone lets it out. Leave for some time before you empty the chest to assure that it is not a false detection. If you are in doubt about the "suspect" (remember false postives do happen!) post a message here and we will help you.

I had Norton 360 installed on my laptop and my 512MB RAM desktop. It did take up too many of the desktop's resources. I un-installed it even though we had more subscription time left. I only had 3 Svchost.exe at one time. I also recommend AVG.
