fatal error
Hey tech guy!

You helped us once before and we are hoping you can help us again. we have a dell computer and are using windows xp and recently when we signed on, our desk top disappeared and was replaced by a generic warning screen saying that our computer's security was at risk. it offered a link to scan our computer but we ignored that - fearing it would futher infect us and scanned our system using super antispyware. the first time it "removed" 139 threats and we have since ran the scan three or four more times. as of this morning we are still completely unable to navigate our computer. it is currently off line and i am using a lap top to contact you.

Although the trojan.fake drop threats have been temporaily removed we are getting BatCO and Adware/80 solutions surf assistant.

what - if anything can be done to clean our computer up!?!?!

Thanks!
cm

For one thing, use more malware apps. Spybot is good, but no single one gets them all. Also, run Spybot on boot before anything loads. It will be able to find much more that way that is hidden once activated.

Free anti-malware scanners:

A-Squared
Spybot S&D
RunScanner
Ad-Aware 2007
SuperAntiSpyware
Spyware Eliminator
Emco Malware Destroyer
Spyware Doctor
Arovax Anti-spyware
Trend-Micro Rootkit Buster
F-Secure Blacklight

List of freeware security software

Bootzilla is designed to remove malware and spyware offline with the latest definitions.

Not working
The computer prompts us to use an existing program on the computer to make any of these suggestions work. SuperAntispyware is on the computer so that is the only one we can do. We plugged the thing back onto the internet thinking that we could download some others, but it won't let us. Bootzilla did not work. We did plug the computer back onto the internet and already there are 15 new threats.

We attempted to run Hijack this so we could send the results, but again, no go. Should we make this cpu a boat anchor?

Use a different machine to make Bootzilla.

Thanks
Like we said from the beginning, we are using a different computer to make these posts. We downloaded bootzilla onto a disk and transferred it to the infected computer right away. It did not work. Two people have tried over and over again to get it to work and even tried a different disk with Bootzilla and it didn't work.

We managed to get SpyDoctor to work without being online. We got 267 infected even after SuperANtispyware only showed 5. BUT, they require that we purchase them online in order to clean the computer. Is this what you had in mind?

Emco Malware destroyer only found one thing when we obviously know there are more.
