We keep getting spyware on our home machine even though we have the windows firewall turned on and run AVG and Super Anti-spyware...anyone have any suggestions? I always get the latest updates on AVG and Super Ant-ispyware..

I use Sandboxie and Returnil as extra layers of security - both provide a virtual type of browsing and a safe way of trying new progs. Both are free.

Sometimes it takes more then one spyware removal program to remove all the spyware. At www.download.com if you search for Spybot Search & Destroy, then Ad-Aware SE you can download these free programs to see if you can find anything your other spyware program may be missing. I've been trying out this program called Spyware Blaster, which I suppose is for protection while you are surfing online. Sometimes a slowing computer may mean other problems linked to your registry and hard drive. If you are not a very Computer Techy person I would reccomend taking it to a pc repair shop. Just research them out first, if you can find a flat-rate computer repair man I would take that route. Cheeper in the long run. Hope I can help!

Thanks for the info...actually I am fairly techy, and got the free programs I have from here...like AVG, Super Anti Virus etc...in the past they have worked great but lately I noticed they have been finding lots of spyware junk .... I

I would do the following:

Run a "free online scan" at http://www.antivirus.com

After that go ahead and clean out or delete anything it finds that you can't recognize.

Go to http://www.download.com and download spywareblaster, spybot search & destroy, AVG 8.

Perform a full scan with AVG 8.

Install and download all updates for spywareblaster. Make sure all protection is enabled.

Install and update spybot. Immunize the system and perform a full system scan.

These should elminate the majority of your spyware headaches.

I'd also add in a free online Ewido Scan at http://www.ewido.com

i have Avast, Zone alarm, Spybot, Adaware, SUPERantiypyware, Winpatrol, spywareblaster, Firefox with adblock and Mcafee Site advisor and i STILL get minor infections, it really does seem like a battle you cannot win, especially if other people are using the computer without supervision... however site advisor has been amazing it really helps others understand that the site with the red cross is bad and when that little bar turns yellow or red get out of that site, as immunizing can alway miss something... however again that still does not get everything... just use the best protection... common sense... if anything seems strange think about it for a second and use your judgment...

No one program is going to protect you

Dont ever have 2 antivirus programs running at the same time with real time protection . it will cause problems

malwarebytes! thats the other one i forgot i had! very good program! it picked up an annoying infection nothing else could find (not even hijackthis showed traces)

Well although Hijackthis is very good it can be fooled by infections

How serious is the spyware? If it's just at the tracking cookie level, I don't worry. However, ever since I switched to Firefox with No-Script, and installed the host file recommended in one of the sticky posts n this forum, even the cookies are down. Super Anti-spyware only picks up one, where there used to be about 4 dozen of the same ones.

I get blank spots in many web pages where something fom double-click would have pasted an ad. Ha ha on them.

yea tracking cookies are really not that bad, some cookies are required to open pages and many cookies are useful to you, techguy even uses one but adaware should get rid of all of them
