Avast without the net?
i recently got a new.....old....kinda... computer, its not connected to the net and never will be, but i still want to have at least one program to protect, and Avast has been great to me and also has the ability to scan selected folders and removable media (which is where most of the multimedia is coming from right now) and i was wondering... how would i get updates? do i HAVE to be connected to the net for any reason besides updates?

Pop into a friends place or an Internet cafe and download the latest definitions from Avasts site and take them home on a usb stick or cd.

That depends on what you're going to use the computer for. Most applications have updates that will have to be downloaded on another computer and transferred to the one without a connection. What about Windows updates?

You could download SP3 and that would bring you reasonably up to date.
