It's Limewire's fault (ok, ok... and mine)
Hello Everyone

I have been using my computer problem free for a while now.

Until recently...

I started using Limewire... pro...

I needed an audio file that I couldn't find off the net via normal Googling, so I used Limewire to find the file...

It found it alright... But for those that know Limewire... It seems to (or people that know how to manipulate the results of limewire searches) come up with dummy files for the unsuspecting downloader to download (enter icer101... )...

I downloaded what looked like the file I needed... funny that the file was called EXACTLY what I typed into the search bar of limewire... Anyways...

I clicked on it, double clicked on it... and my resident web browser opened up with an error message... I didn't really think twice about it, and shut it off before I could read what it had said... But a short glimpse made me believe that it was a generic error... and I thought that the file had a url embedded in it... and that was that...

My PC started playing up after a bit (within a 24 hour time frame)... I must have restarted since, because I got a web page for my desktop... I had manually initiated an avast scan... Problems started occurring... trojans and the like had infiltrated my system... I started merrily deleting them... and finally, avast asked me to reboot so it could do a deeper scan.. I let it.

After the first virus popped up, I selected the "Delete all" selection and left for school...

Upon my return home, I logged back into my pc (dunno why XP asks me to login, as I am the only user/account, but anyways...) and the webpage was still there... on the desktop, this time, it couldn't log in, so I got my modem's error page (suffer virii, suffer!), but after a while, it was logged in to the page again...

Needless to say though, my Firefox web browser (the main one), and IE had the same cheesy home page. Funnily though, not Opera.

I came here, remembering that there were competent helpers, that may be able to help, and read a few problems before posting... I was made aware that posting a Hijack This report may help... So here it is:

Is my computer repairable? Or should I just go with an early Vista 'Upgrade'? Otherwise, I was planning on this upgrade a week or so later...

Thanking everyone for their help in advance

And of course, some screendumps:

Initially it starts off like this:

This is what it becomes inevitably (yesterday it was a yellow screen with the links in the middle of the screen... uuughhh!):

I tried to change the desktop image to no avail! It won't let me change the image:

Also, just so that you know, once I press the "Customize Desktop" button, and select the "Web" tab, nothing is ticked in that section.

Again, thanking everybody in advance for their input from now
