Avg 8.0
I've just downloaded the new "free" version of AVG's 8.0 anit-virus program. I ran the "scan whole computer" and in the results I got about 50 "result/infections", but next to the "threats" down below it is "0". Why do all these come up if they are not trojans / infections etc? Should they be removed or not? Why did AVG find them and my spyware programs didn't? I have webroots spy sweeper, and that should have caught at least one of them. Thanks.

Vault
I had 268 "warnings", and no threats, using AVG 8.0 when the scan was done. I put them all in the virus vault, was this ok to do? I did not delete them yet from the vault in case I need them. The scan also healed about 10 of them, so I'm assuming they are ok. Thanks for the info also.

Just for added information, I have both MS Internet Explorer, and Firefox. I like Firefox better. Didn't I hear someone was hacking into this on the internet, trying to get you to think you were upgrading firefox, when actually you were getting either a spyware or virus, or something like that. I still like firefox better, just because of the active X problems in MS.

Without knowing what the warnings were it's hard to say it was ok to send them to the vault.
I know AVG flags tracking cookies as warnings, maybe this is what they were?

I too have d/l and run AVG 8.0. I think if you look closely, those 'infections' are mostly cookies...At least that is what they are on my computer. This new version seems to also have an anti spyware program built in with the anti virus. If you will notice it also checks the web sites when you google for something,

you could post a hijackthis log in the malware removal forum to make sure you're not infected,

but did you recently clean up an infection on your computer? because those files are in your system restore if you turn off system restore restart your pc then turn system restore back on then that should remove everything out of system restore

Start or On Desktop > Right Click My Computer > Properties > System Restore Tab > Check Turn Off System Restore > Restart > Repeat but UNcheck Turn Off System Restore.

I must first apoloigize Gizzy ... My posting you replied was a testing for how effective a response here would be. You gave a very impressive, precise knowledgeable and informative delivery. You also couldn't have done a better job of doing this ...

Now my option about Avg. 8.0 payed version with all the components all in one. This product i would give a overall rating of 7/10. One draw back are having all the Anti-spyware, Web Shield, Resident Shield, LinkScanner and Anti-Virus all in one. This version works very well with the Anti-Virus detection in a full scheduled scan but came up short detecting all signatures for a "Scan whole computer". It detected all of the virus signatures i threw at it and found each one only with a "Scheduled Scan" was finished. 8.0 has a very easy user interface but it has several miner drawbacks. It's LinkScanner consist of active Surf Shield and Seach Shield. With these both working it slows down IE/Firefox considerable from loading pages. On the positive side they will help you from accidentally becoming infected by drive by downloads and other exploits showing you the web pages you visit safe and have been scan by Avg.
I would use it a for Anti-Virus detection scheduled scan but believe it's to bloated hogging to much computer ressources. Also it works best only when all components are working together. You can't turn off even one component without a nasty notifcation eye sore you. You can remove the Tray Icon from loading to prevent this but not advisable for proper use of the components working properly.
The price in considering you get all these components is reasonable and i believe if you want to be a very safe inernet surfer you will love and hug it ...
