How to Run Applications which requires Admin Priviliges for Power Users
Hi guyz,

I am working on the task to take Admin Privileges form the development users in our company. Now there is a problem that some of the applications require the Admin privileges when they need to be installed on the system. And Development people need to install/uninstall these softwares in their daily routine. I have tested that the power user is also not able to install these applications and it requires admin privileges to install these kinds of applications.

Can anyone help me how I can specify a program/or applications to be installed without providing the admin privileges or any other solution for this problem so that I should not be giving the Admin privileges to the developers and at the same time they can install/uninstall those applications.

Plz help me in this regard.

I believe only the Program Files directory is locked from installation. So you can try installing the program somewhere else, like My Documents.

grant them full control in the ntfs properties of the folder in question and all child folders. That should do it.

Well but some of the applications in the starts gives the error message that in order to install the application you need to be an Administrator or Only the Administrator can install this applicaiton. What to do please guide me.

to install you will need to right click the executable and choose runas; that will bring up a dialogue box where you (the admin) can enter your credentials to install the app. Once it's installed, navigate to the folder for it, right click, choose security, and under the ntfs options grant the user full rights to only that folder. They will then be able to have full control over that folder and it's dependencies.

Thanks Valis,

But the probelm still remains that how any power user will be able to install the application for first time without the Adminsitrator's help. Because the first time he will be installing the applicaiton will require the run as command and I do not want the dependency of the Admin providing the credentials.

Is there anyway I can add that I can configure the user that he can install any paritcular appllication?

Or is ther anyway that power user does not need to provide the admin credentials and the Admin credentials can be automatically provided while installing the application. Just like in Windows XP we can store the Password to access the network can we do something similar to application Installation???

there is no way around that. You either have to grant them admin rights, or remote to the pc and use the runas command with your credentials. Power users are not able to install applications.
