Question Can anyone recommend a free security suite?
(Not sure if this is in the right Forum )

I have been looking through the different threads on here and alot of you use free security suites.

I am currently using McAfee but it takes forever to do a scan

I have also been reading about Spy ware things but I'm not sure if McAfee does this too.

Can anyone recommend what I should change to?

Avg 8 antivirus ( free)
Malwarebytes for a weekly spyware scan ( free)
Winpatrol

Im sure others here will have their own recommendations

I dont know of one free program that will do everything

Also add Spywareblaster to your list
It runs in the background

Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.
By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

Its free as well

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

Should I un install my McAfee before trying to install Zone Alarm and AVG 8?

Sorry for sounding dumb, but I've never changed it before

I have just installed AVG from the link you gave me and it says that I only have 28 days of protection remaining and that I have to buy it.
Have I installed the wrong one?

AVG is decent. Avast is decent.

PLEASE, Do not use Zonealarm Free. Please. I reccomend you unsintall, Zonealarm Pro is good, The free version is rubbish

Instead, Get Comodo. Its a free firewall and its as good or even better than the PAID version of Zone Alarm

Click here to download Comodo Firewall Pro

Funny thing is, I'm a Zonealarm Security Suite guy but, I am considering moving to Comodo. We will see but, I do know that Comodo is 10X better than Zonelarm Free. Look it up.

Zonealarm Free is Horrible in protection. Comodo is better if your going for free.

People who have upgraded to AVG 8 from 7.5 should note that there is no longer rootkit protection in the free version.

Is comodo fine to use on it's own or rather without the defense+ being on and then an antivirus?

Hi tony oh,

you can use the defense+ in comodo with an anti-virus since defense+ isn't an anti-virus.
