Solved: Questions About Netgear Wireless Adapters/Routers
Hi All,

I have TWC All in One (Digital Phone, Cable, High Speed Wireless Road Runner Internet.) My question is about Netgear Wireless Adapters: Note that I have the WG111v254Mbps Wireless USB Adapter from Netgear. Also note that I have had Road Runner for almost a year with no malware problems or evidence of slowdowns. Maybe once in a blue moon, I get a disconnect, but it is quickly resolved by either unplugging the Wireless Router or right-clicking and doing the Repair diagnostic.

Sometimes I get the Pop Up Balloon: Netgear Wireless Connection is Now Connected (unsecured) This was installed by TWC according to their configurations. The instructions for the Netgear Adapter assume that users are NOT using WEP security. I have learned that this feature is not supported by some of the older modems, and that it may be harder to connect to a network if you have an encrypted configuration. You also have to check with your wireless network provider, because in setting up encryption, the connection protocols must match exactly.

If you have a firewall however and the proper security software that you regularly update and run scans, you are safe. However, this unsecured network could allow your neighbor if he has wireless to tap into your network. But does this also mean that a "good person" let's say my brother who might want to connect his computer to my Wireless network would NOT be able to do so with an encrypted modem on my system.

Thoughts on this?

You said you dont have WEP configured, then you said your modem is encrypted. I am confused.

Well, if you have WEP configured at the modem, then all interested parties must have the same WEP key in order the share the line.

Thanks! What I meant to say is, IF you have an encrypted connection, I have a non-encrypted connection, but you have answered my question.
