Wait for 2007 to expire. You will get 1 year when you install 2008 (never more).
I found that 2008 uninstalled 2007 during install.
I usually upgrade on or close to the subsciption end date.

2007 should definitely be removed before installing 2008.

When my friend downloaded Norton 2007, he found he had to uninstall the earlier Norton (don't know the version) before the download would install.

If you were changing to a different maker's software, you might want to use Nortons uninstall tool, but since it's still Norton, the windows uninstall should be enough.

Hi T.L.C.,

Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your question about upgrading Norton. The best method to use is to uninstall the 2007 version first using the instructions below. You can use Windows Add/Remove Program feature first, however the Norton Removal Tool will ensure that anything left behind will also be uninstalled.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

3. Makes sure your internet connection is working properly and then install Norton AntiVirus 2008. During the installation process you will be prompted to enter your Norton Account information and new product key. LiveUpdate will also run and download and install the latest program and definition updates.

Thank you,
Mike

After you upgrade your Norton, be sure to download and install AVG v8 and rescan your computer to get rid of the stuff Norton misses.

Hi T.L.C,

For further clarification, you should not install AVG or any other antivirus application after you install Norton AntiVirus 2008. You never want to have more than one antivirus application running at the same time or you can experience conflicts which will leave your computer vulnerable to infection.

As long as LiveUpdate is running in "Automatic" mode which is the default setting, it will check for and install the latest program and definition updates, up to 3 times per day to keep you protected.

After you have installed Norton AntiVirus with the steps I posted earlier, please make sure to run a "Full System Scan" to make sure there are no infections on your computer.

I hope this clarifies the installation process for you T.L.C. .

Thanks,
Mike
