Just have a Question/Opinion on our New Laptop as far as Virus Software
Hi all, my wife and I just bought a new Dell Laptop. It came with Trend Micro PC-cillan Internet Security Software and Windows Defender.
The PC-cillan Internet Security one has just expired and so we just have the Windows Defender.
Question: What would be the best bet to do as far as getting some newer Anti Virus software? Update the subscription to PC cillan or get something else?

Thanks in advance....dano

The Windows Defender is not antivirus. With an expired trial period on Trend Micro, you are probably running without antivirus protection.
I would download AVG free, till you decide what to do. I would never run with no antivirus protection.

Definitely go with a free AV. They are just as good (there is certainly reason to believe they are better) as the pay versions. I like AVG free, but there are quite a few other, good ones.

Additionally, here's what you want to do to harden your new PC against attacks:

I can vouch for Avast Home Edition as being an effective free antivirus. I suggest if you use this, download a few skins for it.

If you want to pay, NOD32 is a lightweight and advanced antivirus application.

For free, look to Avast or Grisoft.
