I have a home computer with local internet service. When I shut down
my computer it tells me that other users are logged on. I am not part
of a workgroup or network. I want to know where MSHome came from.
The properties are not available, and I cannot remove it.

MSHome is the default workgroup name. It is there whether or not you have a network.

Do you have a router? Do you have a firewall?

I have broadband service from my local telephone company. I am not part of any workgroup because this is my home computer. I have a windows firewall. I do not have a wireless router, but have the modem that my ISP provided with my service.

Thank you for your response.

If you do not have a router, then I recommend you get one ( a wired one, not wireless) . As you are only relying upon your Windows built-in firewall now. The XP Windows Firewall is not that great as it built to accept things like file and printer sharing and you don't want people on the internet to be doing that. Alternatively you can get a third party software firewall like Comodo ( which is free ). .
