Anti-virus for a laptop on a technologically challenged nonprofit?
Hey everyone,

My mom just got a Windows (Dell) laptop from her work so she can work from home and to replace her desktop. I was very concerned to see that:

a) IE is needed to use her work's case management system
b) There's no security software whatsoever on this machine.
c) Her account is administrative.
d) This agency (she's a social worker) knows almost nothing about technology. There's a somewhat technologically inclined person who acts as the IT person but isn't as good as one would hope.

I'm itching to install AVG Free, Comodo, and Ad-Aware (the usual setup), but I'm worried about licensing, and whether or not she's allowed to use them... they are a nonprofit, I think, though that differs from "personal use", but then there's also whether or not she'd be allowed to run the software by her work...

Very concerned. I don't think an unprotected and full-time-IE-using Windows machine will last more than a couple of weeks, and it is my geek instinct to act, but I want to be sure.

Any advice welcome. I'll have her ask at work about it.

Well, I guess nobody wants to help. I have an email in to AVG, hopefully I'll hear back from then soon.
