Not to be rash, but look in the forum. There are almost incountable threads about this. Either search or just look at the first few pages inside of the General Security forum. There's tons of opinions, but no for sure winner...

Avast is probably the best free one right now. I use that one

Avira and Avast are both pretty good.

I would say an Avast antivirus, Comodo firewall and Ad-Aware is a pretty descent combination.

Avast=Avg<Zone Alarm

Throw Clamwin into your arsenal against malware. Run it periodically.

Avast is better than AVG, Avg also is not offering a free version anymore.

You sure about that? I just downloaded it a few days ago and it is working great. I like AVG, but personally, I would go with kaspersky. That is what I was using before I got AVG. I didn't feel like paying the $50. Everyone that I work with uses AVG.

There seems to be some type of confusion about AVG still offering a free version. I have it and it is continuing to update on a daily basis.

UPDATE, I have deleted AVG and gone with Avast.

So far so good.

Take your pick of the following...

Avast, AVG, or Avira

Spybot S&D, SUPERAntiSpyware, or Ad-aware

Comodo or Zonealarm

Avast has a better detection rate than AVG, which matters, not interface look...

what pee`d me off about avg was that it wouldn't do its updates automatically so i use AVP but i might just have a look at Avast
