How are they getting into my laptop??
I have a personal laptop Inspiron 1501 w/vista I leave in my cube at work. I lock it when I leave but when I return my desktop background picture is changed (intentionally with something funny or obscene which I take as a joke unoffended) but I just want to know.. How the hell is this person doing it? Any suggstions how they do and how to prevent it??

It appears that there are a few ways to do this...

What do you mean, you "lock" it? If I were you I would literally lock it, up, that is. Lock it in a safe, a file cabinet, whatever. Restrict physical access to it. If it still happens after that, then I'd wonder how the heck it happened.

It could be (although the chances are quite low) that it is a malicious application changing your desktop wallpaper.

You are taking it good. Thats probably why they're doing those things. Take the battery with you. Slip an old laptop in place instead of yours, that you superglue shut. You ever see that clock that has a camera. Have some fun, they are

Set a bios password for boot. Change the boot sequence so that it uses the hard disk only and not the CD Rom.

Set an Admin password. They can boot in safe mode and logon into Admin. Also set a password for all accounts, and remove the Guest Account, if you have one.

Windows key + L is a great one. Basically just logs you out, and locks the account, if someone else wants on, they either have to know your password, or log you out.
