Cool Vista Anti Virus 2008
I have been working on a computer that had 206 infections including some really bad Trojans and lots of spyware. I have successfully removed all of them but I still keep getting one pop up each time the computer restarts. It is thwarting off all my attempts to remove it. When it opens it appears to do a quick scan and recommends you to save a file which wants to install an active X plug in. I have included a couple of screen shots so that if anyone has seen this before maybe some further explanation will help me remove this stubborn one.

Note - It only opens when I launch Internet Explorer

Googling 'Vista Antvirus 2008' produces lots of hits, most of the first page seeming to promote assorted removal tools (some free), and/or providing manual uninstallation instructions (including the dreaded Registry edit!)

The obvious risk is that some of the 'cures' could be malware themselves or cause more problems that this dubious program does. It might be an idea to use the 'Report' function and ask a Moderator to transfer this to the Malware Removal Forum where one of the experts will probably ask you to provide a Hijack This log.

It would also be a good idea to switch to a non Active X browser like Opera or Firefox.

I am laughing my head off at the developers for "Vista Antivirus 2008"...wow so convincing...what do they take us for?!

Anyways...

Try AVG or Clamwin AV. Run full system scans and on Clamwin, scan processes loaded into system memory. Follow the instructions of removal each of the tools give you.

I would only recommend two names.... BitDefender and Spyware Dr.

Both have real time scanning and Bitdefender is easy to use , when in quarantine....you can easily dispose of the problem by deleting it!!!

Also, I wouldnt recommend using the Spyware Dr. all the time, prolly run it once a week or twice a week. Dont let it run everytime for it can slow your puter down but I would still use it for scanning spywares or any adware out there.

please-do-this

If you have HJT already please uninstall before reinstalling new version
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Spyware DR. is not free and only detects SPYWARE.

Bitdefender is not free and has LOW detection rates. How much lower can you go?

I suggest Clamwin.

Cool Post In Security & Malware Removal
I have posted this problem in Security & Malware Removal as recommended. I can not use AVG due to software conflict with Roxio, so I installed Avast. I also scanned it with multiple programs including Clam Win. Here is the the link to the post on the Malware page. http://forums.techguy.org/malware-re...st-pop-up.html

I will run a Hijack This log and post it next time I work on that computer which will be in a day or two.

Vista Antivirus 2008 is a rouge anti-spyware program that displays false FALSE AND EXAGGERATED SCAN RESULTS. (all of those virus and spyware are FAKE) The antivirus itself is spyware. It comes from the Zlob Trojan family . Vista Antivirus 2008 is a new clone of well known XP Antivirus malware. What you should do is download Malwarebyte here. Follow this also for information for Malwarebyte, removing Vista Antivirus 2008 here
