Can hakcers get phone numbers?
we have recently received strange phone calls from an unknown person talking junk, we are unable to get their phone number, nor can any1 have gotten ours, the only way i could possibly think is through something through the computer, we don't give away personal details on the net or not and the number is private, is there anyway can hack the phone line through the net or anything?

Possible. But they probably have a registry of phone numbers, legally complied.

It depends, yes it is possible to hack and get the person's phone line if you have a DSL modem. DSL goes through phone lines, and your computer has to dial the phone number to get data.

There is also something that is a lot easier to get a hold of, it's called a phone book, usually its big and yellow. And it has a white pages area which has a list of phone numbers there you go, I just figured out the big problem.

The FBI just arrested a blind phone phreaker whom is an expert at using social engineering to get telephone company employees to give out the information he needed to harass people that were tracking him (telephone company) employees. One day he gets his friend (maybe brother) to drive him up to the house of the telephone company employee he is harassing - says he just wants to have a talk with him (while the guy was out in his yard mowing the lawn). The story is on wired.com somewhere.

So, in answer to your question, yes it can be done. In the story, there were some miscreants from around the world including Austrailia as I recall (of this type - phone phreak).

Yes its amazingly easy! If you have your own website. (www.yoursite.com) If you go to the whois advanced server lookup, Every single detail about you comes up. This also applys with your i.p address depending on your router. (some have internel and external i.p addresses which can not be linked unless you have port forwarding on.) The whois server lookup shows your full name, address, phone number post code etc etc.

Are you sure about this? I know either the DSL modem, a router, or a computer must login to the DSL account but that's far different than dialing a number. I'm not sure I follow you on this....

The only personal info that will appear is what is associated with the registered domain. If you post bogus info, bogus info will be reported. Most importantly not every single detail about you will appear so it's not like they will be able to get your SSN through a whois lookup.

Peace...
