Smile AVG Question
I would like to know if anyone here is running the full version of AVG as their main antivirus? I have been running Norton Internet Security for 3 years and to be frank it sucks. I ran Norton and it found nothing. I then downloaded the free AVG and scanned and it picked up all sorts of things.

If I could find a better program I would rid Norton all together. Any suggestions?

I do use Spyware Doctor in background. Also am I supposed to be running a separate Adware program? I am oblivious to all this because there is so much out there so any help is grately appreciated.

Dump Norton and stick with AVG free, it should be more than enough unless your downloading from bad websites or P2P programs consistently. Superantispyware and Spybot Search and destroy are the best spyware programs I've used. Spyware doctor is not one that I fancy because it finds a lot of non-important garbage.

I'd stick with norton. Though if you hate norton and you paid, use it until the end. Norton is one of the best. http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ihs/...2008m3b_US.htm

wow ... and you class yourself as "intermediate"

search the threads here you will find differing opinions from some very knowledgeable posters regarding AV programs like Avast, AVG and other freeware AV's. However there are two almost unanimous opinions out there. NOD32 is the best paid AV and Norton is a hugely bloated resource hogging piece of software prone to cause as many problems as it prevents, the advice is always to remove it.

Right on DarqueMist, you hit the nail right on the head. With Nod32 and Superantispyware, you need nothing else, and you are seriously protected.
Norton is not a great antivirus, but it is far worse software since we look at an antivirus first for it's antivirus ability and second how it performs as software and the system drag with Norton is unbearable.

I had Norton on my Vista laptop and really noticed no improvement when I removed it so it may be true that the more recent releases are better at CPU utilization.

Conversely, I use the free AVG 7.5 on another PC and see it is mandating upgrade to AVG 8.0, which has acquired a reputation for being bloated and slowing down net browsing?
