Solved: Free Firewall.
Does anyone know if there is a free firewall out there that will operate on Windows Millenium Edition?
Some say they do under the system requirements listing but they don't.

I do not know what Jetico did but it fried something I can't fix.
My attempted connection to the internet now turns into the blue screen of death right at the point of "Verifying your ID and password."
I have reinstalled communications, dial up networking and the modem and drivers and I do not know what went wrong and can't find a solution.
These are the two things that come up:
An exception 0E has occured at 0028:C00120EA in VxD ---. This was called from 0028:C1C30636 in VxD ---.
Then press any key to continue and get this:
An error has occured.
File name pppmac (04) + 0000723A Error: oE: 0E : 0028 : C1C32F8A
I am desperate to fix this problem, whatever it is.

Hi Jetico works well on an old 98se that I use sometimes.
Have you uninstalled Jetico?
If no uninstall and see if you can then connect to the net.

System restore was disabled a long time ago.
There is no need for such a harsh fix. It is only a matter of finding what Jetico did and undoing it.

The issue was resolved through the use of start/run/scanreg.exe
Whatever the problem was, scranreg didn't say. It first said it could not access the registry because of an error then said it would fix the error and reboot then I try my internet connection and it works.
Had I used restore (even if restore did function) I would not have been aware of this optional remedy.
Now I know two remedies for this particular issue.
