Avast real time protection?

quick question please

should Avast alert me immediately when finding trojans?

I assumed it should but I discovered I had 4 trojans when I recently did a scan!

The data base updates every day so I thought I had real time protection

Yes. Those Trojans you detected doing a scan were probably inactive, or corrupted.

I'd never thought of that though I wouldn't have assumed that all four were equally inactive, surely one would have at least been detected earlier
