Suspicious PC Behavior, Not sure what else to do.
Hey guys. Lately my PC has been acting very strangely. I have run my anti-virus twice a week and my anti-spyware programs. Usually all they find are tracking cookies and the occasional trojan, which is removed.

Still, my pc is suddenly moving very slowly. I had some technicians come to set up my new internet and they were stumped as to why the pc worked so slowly. They said had way too much stuff on my Task Manger under processes. They told me I could google each item and it would tell me what it was and if it was necessary.
Well, I have done that. I see a few things that look suspicious to me, but I am still not clear about what is and isn't good for a pc.
Also, some time ago I had a few bad spyware/malware/and viruses on my pc. I came here and read forums and tried the solutions. My pc 'seemed' to be fixed.

A few days after I thought I had fixed it I had these things happen:
In my toolbar, little email icons from Norton flooded my toolbar. It kept running for a few minutes with pop up messages that emails were being sent to all kinds of addresses. I was so shocked I didn't know what to do. I tried to stop it by going to Task Manager, but it had disabled it. (I did fix that). I tried some solutions here and thought THAT was fixed. Later that week, I had yet another strange thing happen. My background suddely changed and said my computer was being accessed by another I.P. Address. This was some time ago and I am afraid I did not copy down the I.P. address.
It wouldn't let me surf the web, change my backgrounds, or much of any thing. I came here again and to Norton's website as best I could with the problem making it hard to use the web.

I know that is a lot of explaination and it may be confusing, but I am just not sure what to make of it and that is the best way I can explain it. I thought those things were fixed, but ever since those things happend, my PC has just not acted right.

I have tried these programs to help:

SUPERAntispyware
AVG Free
System Mechanic 7 - 5 (I have tried each one and can't yet afford to buy the full version)

I also tried some of the things I saw listed here for other peoples problems like

Panda Active Scan (i may have the name a bit off)
Hijack this. I have yet to have anyone analyze this as I thought my system was fixed.

I had a post here where cookiegal helped someone and it seemed like it was the same problem my system had. I copied it and I run the suggested steps almost twice a week. The AVG in safemode may only bring up a few things but I can't use that AVG anymore. I only have the AVG free.

What else can I do? Is there some report I can run or something I can post here that any of you could look at and tell me what is wrong?

If any of you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. I use my pc for my online college classes. I am afraid if there is something bad causing this it could seriously damage my pc (is that possible?) and I could not afford to buy another.

You seem to have a lot going on there and I am afraid I don't know enough to help you. I strongly suggest that you use the 'Report' feature at the foot of your post and ask a Moderator to transfer your thread to the Malware Removal Forum.

Also, for the record, it is not a good idea to find a post where the problem(s) seem to be the same as yours and follow the advice given to the original poster. If you are very lucky, and the problem is relatively simple, that may sometimes work, but it could also lead to more serious problems.

Hi,

Let's have you post a log from Hijackthis and maybe we can spot anything out of place:
go to Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • On that page, click the icon
  • at lower right , and follow the prompts to get the installer version
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Paste the log in your next reply.
  • Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Don't forget this second step

Please also do this:
  • Open Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.
  • Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
  • Click the "Save List" button. After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Pick a place to save it then the list should open in notepad.
  • Copy and paste that list here in your reply

After you post those things, please run this online scanner and save the report as the directions tell you and post them here in a Reply along with the HJT items.

Kaspersky online full scan
  • Please go HERE and click Free Online Scanner
  • Read and Accept the Agreement
  • You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • If you see a Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the Install button.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files,
  • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button becomes available, please click on it.
  • Click on the Scan Settings button, and in the next window select the Extended database, and click Ok.
  • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
  • When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window.
  • Copy and Paste the contents of the on line scanner results into a Reply here in your thread, along with a new HJT log and log from any other scans you run.
