What's the best Anti-Virus software?
Hello,

I trust the suggestions and insight from this site, you guys have helped me in the past so I thought I'd ask for your advice once again. In your professional opinion what is the best anti-virus software available? I recently purchased a new computer and I need a good anti-virus software, I have read reviews and blogs and I have been considering purchasing Kaspersky 7.0. However during my research I kept running into reviews from users complaining about ISwift installing files that aren't deletable and that these files have left the system damaged after you uninstall the software. I have also considered purchasing Norton's anti-virus software but their reviews weren't all that favorable.

So I thought I'd ask here.

this is ???? is for amirulismail.

i want to try avira antivir too.
but when i ask their forums these questions i never get a clear answer.
since your using it , i have a few questions for you.

are you using the newest version ?.
when it has ever found an enfected file did it try to clean/heal it first or
does it just delete the file ?.

when a bad bug trys to get in does it stop it before it trys to get into your pc or when it has already got in?.

i use firefox.
does it protect through firfox as well as internet explorer ?.

thank you
yours truly karen.

Bdrone, I believe it depends on what you're looking for with your computer. If you plan to become a gamer I would highly recommend NOD32. It is really light on the resources and is no where near a hog. Scanning is very light, so if you're gaming and a virus scan starts you will barely notice it. It is also very cheap, for two years you can have NOD32 anti-virus for a price of $58.99.

If you're looking into security, I would recommend Kaspersky. Although it may slow your system down a slight bit at startup it is a very good choice for security. The latest version is only $59.99 for a year. Although a bit more expensive it's a very good security fix.

If you're looking for something with security but with no cost then that could vary from a lot. I've heard a lot about AVG over the time and it's free. With AVG, Spybot Search and Destory and a firewall of your choice (not nessisary if you have a router and know how to use it) such as ZoneAlarm you can have your computer safe in no time. Also, a few more tips. A secure hosts file can secure your system from visiting harmful webpages. Also, a lot of Firefox plugins will help you along the way (McAfee SiteAdvisor).

So, to sum this all up, it varies from what you want and only you can make a very secure system that you know how to manage.

Good luck,

ToXiCaTioN.d,

Thanks for your insight. I've researched NOD32 and Kaspersky and I really want to try NOD32 but I came across Kaspersky 7.0 antivirus for only $19.99 on sale so I'd thought I'd check it out. I am not really into gaming at all but I do surf the net a lot, in any case whatever I do I'd want an antivirus that will protect me no matter what.

I'm not really into free antivirus, for whatever reason I haven't heard anything good from a free antivirus. However I have read that free software has come a long way and I actually like some of the free firewall and spyware/malware that's available, I'm just not into AVG.

Well, before you purchase Kaspersky, give it a try for a 30 day demo, if you like it then go ahead and purchase it. Please also be aware of fake sites. If you are 100% sure that Kaspersky for that price is safe then go for it.

Same thing goes with NOD32. Good luck,

i thank u for all the imput.
i tried avira antivir in the past, in my windows 98 days.
it saved my butt a few times.

i just had a few questions about it is all.
now that its much newer and differant,,,,
is why i asked all the questions.
avg 8.0.101 is giving every one problems,,cuz its new.
i know every one loves it when it was 7.5
they should have another patched(more fixes) in late july early august,,cuz every ones way mad.
i had norton , but it was messing up my pc ,,so i had to ditch it .
zone alarm is a good firewall and much more simple to use then comodo firewall.
---
sorry for all the questions.

,,,besides this help really is for "Bdrone Bdrone" not me .
spybot search an distroy is good and spyware blaster is too,
i use super antispyware, and an older version of avg free antivirus at this moment 7.5,,,,to afraid at this moment to try its newer version just yet,,,,thinking of trying avast or avira-antivir.

i cant afford much at all,,,my budget is way too tight. so i surf careful.
