Had a major problem with the AVG update yesterday. The computer froze. Had to reboot about 9 times to get it up and running again. Now I keep getting pop-up to upgrade AVG. But afraid it will cause problem again. Decided to totally remove/delete AVG and re-download it....and hope for the best.

It seems like I'm not the only one having problems. Glad to know it's not the fault of my computer so I'll just wait until AVG fixes it.

AVG antispyware is now part of AVG AV (I'm not sure how pared down it is compared to the stand alone antispy), with the inclusion of the antispy module in AVG Free I suspect the rootkit is now being used as an incentive to upgrade to the paid version.

As for the server conection / update download issues the AVG update servers are probably still experiencing a heavier than usual load because of the size of the most recent updates. In time it will most likely return to normal (I got the same update failure notice noyb did this morning, imediately re requested it and got it)

Yes I was finally successful late last night. Thanks for asking.
Now, I have another problem. My computer keeps dialing up on its own. I have never had that happen before. Maybe it is a setting in AVG, I don't know anything about that.
Can you help< and thanks so much for asking if I had been successful. It makes me feel less alone. I have nothing but trouble with my computers lately

it may be AVG trying to update itself and trying to dial in when no connection is available for update. First thing to check would be the update scheduler. If its set to update ever x hours then you may want to change that to check once a day instead (choose a time you would typically have a live connection). Also if you trust your memory to update it manually (I do it this way because AVG has a habit of kicking me out of games when it tries to update itself) you can set it to update at a time you know your comp will be off, making sure you untick the "dial up connections" box

>tools
>advanced settings
>update
>dial up (you may have to click the + sign beside update to see the dial up option)

I unticked the "dial up connections' and everything is jim dandy. Thank you so much.
Funny how on my laptop, it was unticked and caused me no grief at all.
Now on to solve my other problem in another forum section, thanks again
