Solved: Mcafee To AVG Problems...
My Mcafee Virus signature file was outdated so i downloaded MCPR.exe
to fully remove it and downloaded AVG.
It looks to me that mcafee is fully uninstalled but when i try to install
AVG (free version) i get a message saying: another antivirus/security product is currently installed on this computer! even tho i have removed Mcafee so i try to continue with the installation anyways then it does not make any progress
and eventually it give me a msg saying: 1 error has occured click on details :
Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005
So then i looked around on google and downloaded CCleaner.exe to clean the registry to
see if that was the problem worked for others with my problem but did not work for me.
i heared good things about AVG but if their is a better Free AV i could install thats good
i would love a link. Btw Mcafee came built in with my dell laptop.
the only trace of Mcafee that i can see is in Security Center under virus
protection it says McAfee VirusScan reports it is turned off BUT their is no Mcafee....
I currently have no Anti Virus......

I would try staying with AVG 8 if possible, I haven't seen anything that works as good...yet. If you have already used the McAfee cleaning tool, then you might have to roll your sleeves up and do a little more cleaning on your own:

1. Boot into safe mode (press F8 as soon as your turn on your computer)
2. Use the Search function to delete anything you find after searching for "mcafee"
3. Then open the Registry Editor (Start --> Run --> Regedit) and search for mcafee again and delete any entries you find...be careful in the Registry and if you don't feel comfortable there, don't do it...one slip up in the Registry can bring the entire system down...you have been forewarned.
4. Restart your computer and try installing AVG again.

Good luck.

If helpmerick's post helped you, and you were successful in the install of AVG, then I would recommend this program for uninstalling all programs. This program searches your computer for left over files and registry entries.

Download: Revo Uninstaller

It makes my life so easier, and I would recomend it to everybody trying to uninstall either their anti virus to switch to AVG or any other product.

Good luck with the installation.

Good call
I have had mixed luck with Revo Uninstaller, but it is definitely worth a try.

Unfortunately, if you don't feel comfortable with the registry, the answer might be installing a trial version of McAfee and then uninstall it...that might do it for you easier than not.

Good luck.

First check if you have administrative access on the computer. If you do, continue with the steps below. The system manufacturer could have removed the accounts access.

Please double check that there is no trace of McAfee in your system at all. This the registry and startup. Please note that going into the registry is 100% safe as long as you don't delete anything. Just in case, I'll tell you how to backup the registry.

How to check the Registry
1. Press start, then press run.
2. On the newly opened box type "regedit" without the quotes.
(BACKUP) 3. Click File then Export. Next, click "All" under the export range. Choose the path and save, please wait while this finishes (could take several minutes)
4. After the backup, click Edit then Find. Type in "McAfee" and wait until the search finishes.
5. At your own will, I don't want to force you, delete the registry entry it found.
6. Press F3 (or Edit then Find Next) until you've found nothing.

Please remember that do this at your own will and you are dying to get AVG to work. If there are any problems then please start your computer in Safe Mode and restore the registry file that you saved.

Check the Startup and Services
1. Press start, then click run.
2. Type "msconfig."
3. On the tabs, press Services
4. Check off "Hide all Microsoft Services" then look for any that may have to do with McAfee. If you are unsure post here or google it.
5. If you found any, uncheck them.
6. Now, on the tabs, press Startup, again check if you see anything with McAfee and check them off.
7. Click apply then okay.

Restart your system when it asks and try the AVG installation again. Please, if you don't feel comfortable playing around with the registry then don't. You could also try AVAST! which is another good program. Also, helpmerick's idea wouldn't hurt to try.

Good luck.

I have already tried all these methods..
the problem is when i delete the regkeys they all delete accept one is not deleting
it says unable to delete all specifed folders
even tho it wont delete any of it...

the key is locate in this directory- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_MCMSCSVC\0000]
"DeviceDesc" REG_SZ McAfee Services
"Service" REG_SZ mcmscsvc
and when i restart all the other keys that i deleted came back im guessing that thats the main one that needs to be deleted because it restores all the other keys.
i seen in another post something about changing the permissions but he stopped posting after that so i dont know what to do from here.
you would think that mcafee is a virus......
i might just try Avast but i would really like to use AVG.

Yes i have also tried removing in safe mode.
this is just crazy how i cant remove it
its almost like McAfee doesnt want you to get a new AV .

and its really weird how i cant find anything on google but people
with my same problem all over but the problem
never gets solved.
---------
EDIT
---------
OK Now im just starting to get angry......
I Deleted all the Mcafee reg files by giving full permission (its fully oof my computer.... i think )
when i run avg install it still says i have another av installed so im just ignoring that because its bull...
it gives me the same error
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005
so i opened regedit and went to
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
and tryed to add a new key just to see if it would let me....
and it says cannot create key: error while opening the key windows.
so that must be the problem....
so i tryed setting permissions to full control it still gives the same error
soooooo.....
i think i give up. their must be something blocking me from making any changes
to that directory any ideas?........

I can tell you what I did one time a few years back that worked on a friends computer. He had Mcafee, and was having a similar problem as yours, trying to remove it, and install AVG. What I tried, which worked on his computer was to reinstall Mcafee, and then go into the Mcafee program setup, and turn off everything, and I mean everything, then go into msconfig, and untick anything that pertains to Mcafee, and apply. Then reboot. Now download AVG, and see if you can execute. If you can, then just leave Mcafee turned off, and you should be able to run AVG ok. This procedure may, or may not work in your case since you have done some registry cleaning, but it may be worth a try.

It sounds like something is blocking your access to add to the registry. Your computer could have a virus. Try doing an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner or ESET Online Scanner.

ESET removes the viruses if found while Kaspersky does not. Although Kaspersky detects more viruses.

Good luck.
