Spyware Doctor is for spyware, not viruses.

AVG, Avast, and AntiVir are all great.

Spyware is a small chunk of the millions of malicious programs on the net. Spyware doctor is useful, but I would also recommend AVG or Avast and Ad-aware 2007. Are you sure you can't shell out some money for a AV suite?

On Black Friday I got 3 licenses of Norton 360 for 20 bucks after rebate at my local tech store

I saw a Kaspersky Internet Security for 20 bucks but I wanted Norton.

Smile Best free antivirus
I have a computer shop and have tried them all over the years. From paid for ones to freebies. The best one ive found so far is Avira free Edition, you can find it on the link page of this website: www.spanishcomputers.com. Regards.

I dropped Norton years ago because it is a resource hog. I now use Avast free, which updates automatically 2 - 3 times a day. Avira has had excellent reviews and I recommend it. All the comparison test results I have seen show AVG free to be at the bottom and is not recommended.

I personally do not like Avast because of several reasons:

Interface. What is up with that brushed metal. It screams iPod clone.
Resource Hog: Uses 10% of system resources compared to Symantec Norton's 2 - 7%
Low Detection and Disinfection Rate: Norton has industry-leading performance.

I have AVAST installed on my older, Win ME and it has worked great for me. Also installed AVAST on my mothers, Win 98SE. She has had great results too. No viruses. We also run spyware removal software and firewall too.

So...when my Norton Antivirus 2008 expires, it will be gone. I run it on my Win XP computer. I have ran NAV since 2001 and was very pleased with it. But NAV 2007 caused so many problems that Symantic offered me a free download of 2008. Many of the problems were fixed with 2008. Other than every year NAV causes the computer to become slower and slower. So it will be history in about 140 days.

So I vote for Avast Free

AVG was a good one like 5 years ago, but its detection rate has gone down, so for antivirus, i use avast and avira avtivir and for spyware i use spybot s&d for immunization and spyware doctor
