Problems with SuperAntispyware
I installed Superantispyware free version on 2 computers, thinking it will find more than Kaspersky when my computer slowed down. But after scanning I lost files, the networking setups and desktop settings.
My computer ran faster, but I had to reconfigure wireless networking and it still didn't work..
I lost most of my System restore ponts also.
After uninstalling Superantispyware and running Kaspersky on-line checker, I could finally reconfigure setting I lost. Kaspersky never found anything.
I also run Kaspersky Internet Security paid version, updating daily.

Anyone else had problems with this program? What else should I check?
And is it enough to have just Kaspersky running, that seems to include, firewall, mailchecker, spyware protection, etc.?

Hi,

I've installed the same version of SAS on probably 50 computers (different types, operating systems, belonging to different people) and have not had any problems that I could remotely blame SAS for....

You could be running some other things that have blocked changes SAS (or other) programs were trying to make and caused some headaches....

It sounds like a conflict between Kaspersky and SAS. Kaspersky set up right should do, it's a popular suite though I have not used it. Never heard of SAS messing anything up like networking!

Can you tell us if Superantispyware, during a scan if it went that far, found anything at all on the computers? Was anything "fixed" that is, detected and removed after an SAS scan?

There is malware that can cause damage and some replace important parts of the operating system or infect other software...

I'm a real novice and I also have a question about SUPERAntiSpyware. I'm using the free version and found that I couldn't run it real time. I would need the Professional version for that. This being true, can someone tell me why I should start it up when the computer starts? Will it be doing anything other than putting it's beetle icon on my taskbar?
Thanks!

What you noticed was you cannot run the Real-time protection since the Free version does not have that feature....

The icon in the tray is handy but you can set the program to not start when Windows does easily....

thanks for replying Byteman, SAS scanned and found some irregularities but no malware. I told it to fix it and that's when it happened. I had Kaspersky unloaded at the time. I have some issues with Kaspersky yet to figure out, maybe some of the settings are set too high or too low.
With SAS do you use Windows Firewall and what other kind of protection software?
I will check out more before I re-install SAS.

Hi BP,

On this computer, and on most I use or work on, I have the Windows Firewall, SpyBot Search and Destroy, Spywareblaster, and AVG 8 or Avast, and nothing else.

I use the Internet through cable ISP with a router that poses as a hardware firewall so it is safer I suppose than a bare cable modem connection....I'm all over the Net, trying links out that I find here in our forums....some not so good links, just to confirm them as good or bad, running malware or not, so I can remove them from posts here, for example. I also test things from time to time.

I've had a couple of sites that really wanted to install the Zlob trojan with a "video codec" download, that's also called Smitfraud trojan....but, with know-how, it's easy enough to get out of that....

I don't do filesharing nor download carelessly.

I do use McAfee's Site Advisor, so I have AVG 8's LInk Scanner turned OFF.

I still have no idea what you mean by the "irregularities"--- could you give me a more detailed idea, or is the need for that gone? Was it the way the computer connected to the Net, such as a proxy setting?

Superantispyware has a good forum for help- did you try asking about the problem there?
