AVG-spy sweeper compatablilty?
Hi Guys

Would anybody be able to advise me if AVG 8 & Spy sweeper
are compatible?

I can get onto the net, yet when trying to receive my mail
via Microsoft outlook, i receive an error message that the connection
to the server was interrupted.

Thankx.

Yes this should work. Do you have a firewall installed?

AVG- spy sweeper compatability?
Hi Mike

Thankx for your post.
Yes I do have AVG Firewall & have noticed that when it's disabled,
I can send & receive mail.
Something tells me that this is not a kosher approach, hence my initial
question about them being compatible?

Yeah I would keep that disabled. If you want another firewall I would recommend Comodo Free Firewall, Sunbelt, or Zone Alarm. I personally don't recommend AVG anti virus, I recommend Avast or Avira.

Thankx Mike,
will try one of your recommendations.
Must say I've had mixed reception to AVG,
some don't like it, others swear by it!!
Thankx again for your input, I can't reciprocate
your advice on IT/pc level, but perhaps on DIY
home maintenance/painting/paving or decks.

I've found the paid version of AVG 8 isn't compatible with Spy Sweeper or ZoneAlarm. I installed it on a system that had the free version of ZA installed and after a while, Windows would crash (BSOD). This persisted after a couple of uninstalls and reinstalls of AVG 8. Then, I installed Spy Sweeper (from a store bought CD) and when I installed AVG 8 again, the system would crash with a BSOD. Right now, there's a free AVG 8 and a paid Spy Sweeper co-existing on the system in question.

Peace...

You should run only 1 each of an antivirus and firewall. more than that will cause you problems. Multiple anti spyware programs are okay.

Why? I've been able to do it yet this recommendation keeps coming up.

No, if you run more than one AV and Firewall they can conflict and make the detection rate less than what it would be if you only had one.

Although this thread is reaching closure, did find an article on another site
re AVG 8's link scanner causing problems on broadband, which is seems to be one of my issues, and also links up to the various inputs you guys have made.
