I have windowsXP home, SP2. on a wireless card.

My gf did some update when I was not looking, And for some reason we lost internet. After some testing I determined that it was ZoneAlarm. I went back through and reset everything to ask me for permission. I am still unable to connect with ZoneAlarm on. When it is on I keep getting these three things trying to access the internet without me even opening a browser. I googled them Two of them bring back no results, One is a yahoo answer about the ActiveX and it needing to be turned on. However None of these apply to me. Here are the three things that I am not sure what they are or why they are trying to connect to the internet, (I ran both AVG, and SpyBot, And I am going to run AdAware in a few.

Does anyone know what these are? something to be concerned about? Thanks.

The two Google items are hops through the servers on the way to you/Google's servers, they should be OK.

Ok well After messing with it for the last 4 hours, I gave up and uninstalled ZoneAlarm, and turned on the Windows Firewall. I have went through all the settings for Zone Alarm, and nothing I did would make it so I could surf. Its not locked the internet zone is set to medium. The programs in the long list are all set to ask. I rebooted, and opened a browser, It would let the home page load, but no links on the page or going to google by link in my favorites or by typing in the address. It just keeps giving me a page can not be displayed, Check for connection problems. As soon as I turn off Zone Alarm everything works. My GF said that it was a microsoft update. I had a friend talking about this last week at work, where he said his home page would connect but no connection past that. Now I know that it was not his computer, but a update, (he happened to update to SP3,) Mine was not a SP3 update though, as it did not say SP3 when I checked the properties to my computer. I would be willing to bet that he has ZoneAlarm installed on his computer.. I am sure this is something this site will be seeing more of. For now I stay with windows Firewall, If I ever figure it out I will repost...

Hi, Windows UPdates have been known to do things to ya like that-

It will be awhile before I turn Automatic Updates back on- you can turn it off ya know. Control Panel>Security Center>Change Automatic Update settings>set it to Off

If you had it ON- don't mean to imply you are a dummy!

I'd wait until this SP3 stuff is worked out....lots of people having major trouble after getting SP3.

I'm NOT anti Microsoft Updates....it's just that I like to wait to see if issues are fixed before I plunge in. Running adequate protection as well as being careful is the key. Your mileage may vary! Hope things stay well. Repost if you need to.

Thanks for the late tip,, LOL, I am useually in charge of the updating stuff around here, where I can monitor what gets installed, Automatic updates are ok to have on if you have it set to ask me before installing, which is what the computer was telling her before she installed it, I would have investigated the problems that the peticular update was causeing across the web. But she got to it first, and she said it was from microsoft so it has to be safe,, LOL how little some people know.. (That was a joke). . Do you know if you get sp3 if it says "SP3" in the properties of "myComputer"? I dont have a clue what update was installed I just know that it still says SP2..
